Goolwa is a historic river port with a unique charm that blends riverfront heritage with coastal beauty. The town offers access to both the sheltered waters of the lower Murray and the expansive Lake Alexandrina.
Goolwa's historic wharf precinct features restored paddle steamers, riverside walking trails, and the Goolwa Barrage that controls the river's flow to the ocean. The town centre provides excellent amenities including cafés, restaurants, and shops, whilst the recently refurbished Signal Point Experience Centre tells the story of Australia's greatest river system through interactive exhibitions showcasing Indigenous and colonial heritage.
Goolwa offers excellent fishing for mulloway, bream and mullet, whilst the nearby Murray Mouth and Southern Ocean beaches provide spectacular scenery. The historic Cockle Train to Victor Harbor (via Port Elliot) operates on Australia's oldest steel railway and the nearby Coorong National Park adds to the town's appeal.
